About the treatment

Vitiligo

Vitiligo is a skin disorder that causes the loss of pigmentation in patches of skin. This happens when melanocytes, the cells responsible for producing skin color, are destroyed or stop functioning properly. The exact cause of vitiligo is unknown, but it is believed to be an autoimmune disorder, where the body's immune system attacks and destroys its own melanocytes.

It can be big psychological trauma growing up with vitiligo especially if its on exposed parts like face or arms

Procedure

Melanocyte transfer

It is a surgical procedure that involves transferring healthy melanocytes, the cells that produce pigment, from one area of the body to another area where melanocytes are absent or not functioning properly, such as in cases of vitiligo or other skin disorders.

During the procedure, a small amount of skin is taken from an area of the body with healthy melanocytes, typically the thigh or buttocks. The melanocytes are then extracted from the skin sample and transferred to the affected area using a specialized tool. The procedure can be performed using either a punch biopsy or a split-thickness skin graft.

It is a day care procedure and patient can go home immediately after the procedure
