Scars can form anywhere after any form of injury like trauma, burns or even previous suturing.
Sometimes scars can grow out of proportion and are called hypertrophic scarring or keloid depending on its character.
Scars
Unsighly or huge scars can be removed as a day care procedure under local anesthesia and when the wound is reesutuered with a fine suture and combined with topical therapy the scar will become very fine. Be aware that scar will not disappear completely.
Hypertrophic scar/Keloid
Hypertrophic scars are scars that have grown above the skin surface but are within the boundary of the scar and may be associated with itching, they typically resolve spontaneously with time and some topical therapy, please contact us as each treatment will depend on size location and duration of the scar.
Keloids on the other ha nd are long standing, grow beyond the edges of the scar, may be painful and itchy. The treatment is multipronged with combination of surgery, steroid or/and 5-FU injections depending on location, size and duration of the lesion.
Feel free to contact us for the treatment.
